New Mexico Gas Company (NMGC) is New Mexico’s largest natural gas distribution utility, providing safe, reliable, affordable energy to more than 1.3 million New Mexicans at more than 553,000 homes and business across the state. Strategically situated between the San Juan and Permian natural gas production basins, we operate in 27 of New Mexico’s 33 counties, maintaining 12,000 miles of pipelines. Our team works from offices across our service territory, including 22 walk-in payment centers. 

NMGC traces its roots to the Albuquerque Gas and Electric Company, founded in 1917, but the natural gas business as we know it today in New Mexico began when Southern Union purchased franchises in Farmington, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque in 1930. NMGC has evolved over its nearly 110 years in operation and was acquired by Bernhard Capital Partners on August 12, 2026. As we look to the future, our commitment is unwavering: delivering safe, reliable, affordable energy that powers the daily lives of New Mexicans and the economy of our state.
